Fasting

Today I'm fasting. I've designated Sundays as the new fast days. I feel like I need to slow down and start reflecting on the things I consume, the things I do, and how I view myself as well as project myself into the world. I think its so important to really think about what I need in order to sustain. Although I'm obviously on the computer, I'm going to try and figure out what I really need and hopefully identify the things that I really don't need. I hope I can make this a habit. How many deliberate acts does it take to turn something into a habit? We'll see if it lasts through school...

So I did that ALS hat AGAIN at Victoria Hagan. Of course its an entire office collaboration. I'm just an intern, but its pretty fun to glue some stuff on a hat. Apparently it was a big hit......

So here are the fired pieces! Notice the color change. Ranger Red wants to be a brick or a glaze I think. The red color attributes itself to all the iron in the dirt. This occurs naturally in the South. I wonder why. The browner clay had more sand in it because it was mostly settlement from the nearby creek (or crick in southern terms). The cones that melted show the kiln went up to 1000 degrees. Pretty hot. Cool. Still don't know what I'll do with it. I wanna make a chia pet

Then we put the pieces on plaster slabs to suck the moisture out to get ready for firing. We also measured 10 CM to figure out how much the clay shrinks once its bisque fired.

We're also making some tiles for him as well. All of them are being produced on the computer to be printed on the 3-D printer. Right now we can't figure out if we want the tiles to be "messy" or perfect. His designs remind me of Rothko and Picasso

Every Tuesday and Thursday I pour molds with Seth for Nail Mountain Studio. We are trying to get his business off the ground. I also explore my own ideas with him. Hanging out in the ceramics shop is so much fun.

Why am I making this site?

So this summer (08) I've been getting involved in a lot of projects. I'm gonna keep a day to day account of what I've been doing with my time in NYC. I work at Victoria Hagan as an intern and for Seth Nagelberg at Nail Mountain Studio (aka school ceramics shop) doing various projects. I can't post pictures of the things I do at Victoria Hagan so I'll come up with some sort of icon system that indicates what I did that day. Basically my friends ask me what it is that I do up here in NYC so this is my way of actually showing them. And by SHOWING them I aim to upload lots and lots of pictures. I'm also a practicing raw foodist so I will upload the kinds of food I eat as well. Enjoy!
